What is Registered Massage Therapy (RMT)?
Registered Massage Therapy involves the kneading and manipulation of soft tissues to gain a therapeutic response. The Massage Therapist must be registered by the College of Massage Therapy in order for the massage to qualify as RM. Many people think physiotherapy and massage therapy are the same thing or very similar; in fact they are quite unique and different from each other. Massage Therapy is great for decreasing the development of painful muscular patterning after trauma/injury and for accelerating rate of recovery.
A Registered Massage Therapist requires enrollment in a government- approved massage therapy school. They receive over 2200 hours of anatomical, physiological, and clinical education along with intensive practical instruction. They then pass a provincial exam and become licensed and registered under the Regulated Health Professions Act.
What can Novo do for you?
At NovoHealthnet, we provide therapeutic massage by a Registered Massage Therapist at all of our locations. Some conditions that benefit from RMT are: • chronic pain • fibromyalgia • sports injuries • muscle spasms • headaches • whiplash • arthritic pain • muscular pain during pregnancy • TMJ • trigger point pain • low back pain • frozen shoulder • and many other muscle related conditions. Many of our clients use massage therapy for preventative purposes as well. If they are physically active or prone to tension related issues, a semi- monthly massage therapy appointment can provide the ‘reset’ that their body needs to prevent onset of pain and dysfunction. We find that in most cases physiotherapy and massage therapy complement each other extremely well; they may be focusing on different structures yet at the same time trying to improve function of the same region. Whether it’s Swedish Massage, Trigger Point Therapy, Myofascial Release, Sport Massage or just Relaxation Treatment, the therapeutic effects of Massage Therapy at Novo can be tremendous. It is a powerful adjunct and wonderful compliment in the treatment of acute and chronic injuries. As well, many people don’t realize that most extended healthcare plans have separate coverage for massage and at Novo we can direct bill to most insurance providers.
